About Us

A Brief History of Lutheran Social Services (London)Lutheran Social Services Logo

In the early 1990’s, Norbert Schuller offered to give Country Terrace Nursing Home to Trinity Lutheran Church.   A charitable, not-for-profit corporation was formed, namely, Trinity Lutheran Social Services (London) to accept the gift with any person in the Lutheran Community eligible for membership.

Ownership of the Nursing Home was transferred on January 1, 1996.  The home was operated successfully until December 2007 when it was sold to Abacus Seniors Living.  The decision was made to become a Charitable Foundation and the name was officially changed to Lutheran Social Services (London).

The funds from the sale of the Nursing Home became the starting basis for the new Charitable Foundation.  Since 2007 the funds have been invested and have continued to grow.   As a Canadian Charitable Foundation, we pleased to be able to disburse a percentage of our funds every year in support of our mission statement.

The focus of our funding:

To provide support services for children, youth, aged, ill and challenged persons including, treatment, personal care, counselling, meals and other assistance that such individuals may require to be more self-sufficient in their lives.

To develop, coordinate and offer programs for children, youth, aged, ill and challenged persons including, social, rehabilitative and post-operative support programs;

To provide support for children, youth, aged, ill and challenged persons affected by debilitating diseases, illnesses and conditions by offering education and counselling and by establishing mutual support groups;

To provide financial support and/or human resources for research into the causes, control and cure for debilitating diseases, illnesses and conditions.

Specifically, we favour initiatives that provide support for children, youth, elderly, ill and challenged persons.  We support programs to improve the quality of life for children and youth.

A volunteer Board of Directors governs our foundation, and volunteers from the membership fulfill the various roles on committees and teams.   Our membership is drawn from the six Lutheran churches in London and we continue to grow and give thanks to God for the blessing this foundation is able to provide to our communities.

We invite you to apply to the foundation and let us help you build a better community that cares for the lives of all its citizens!
